Your treatment and the WGBO
When you receive treatment at Fysio Westlandgracht, the Dutch Medical Treatment Contracts Act (Wet op de geneeskundige behandelingsovereenkomst, WGBO) applies. This legislation sets out important rights and obligations of patients and healthcare providers.
Information and shared decision-making
Your physiotherapist will provide understandable information about the examination, physiotherapy findings, the proposed treatment plan, relevant risks and possible alternatives. You can ask questions and make decisions about your treatment together with your physiotherapist. You may refuse a proposed treatment or withdraw your consent to treatment.
Your medical record
To provide good and safe care, we maintain a medical record. As a general rule, your medical record is retained for at least 20 years from the date of the last amendment to the record. In specific circumstances, a longer retention period may be necessary or permitted.
Access and copies
Subject to statutory exceptions, you have the right to access your medical record and receive a copy. To protect your privacy, we may verify your identity before providing information.
Correction, your own statement and destruction
You may ask us to correct factually incorrect personal data. You may also request that your own statement be added to your medical record. In addition, under certain conditions you may ask for all or part of your medical record to be destroyed. A request for destruction may only be refused where there is a legal reason to do so.
Privacy and professional confidentiality
Your physiotherapist is bound by professional confidentiality. Medical information is not shared with others without a valid reason. Information is shared only where there is a valid legal basis and, where required by law, with your consent.
Electronic patient data
We use Intramed for our electronic patient record and online patient environment. Access to patient data is limited to people who need those data for their work. Additional requirements concerning privacy, security and accountability apply to the electronic processing of healthcare data.
